Planning

Your home is probably the biggest investment you will ever make.  It is a place to raise your family, an asset that (historically) accrues in value and a place where memories are made with family, friends and neighbors.  Therefore, long before the first board is cut or the first brick is laid there are some things that you should consider as you prepare to make changes to it.

Needs and Remodel Planning

What do you want to do?  Are there things that your home lacks that you really can’t do without any longer?  Are there things that would be nice-to-have but not an absolute necessity?  Make a list of everything you can think of and prioritize them, with the must-have items at the top and the nice-to-haves below them.  Unfortunately change doesn’t come for free, as much as we’d like it to.  All of your needs and wants are going to cost money.  Take the list and try to put a relative cost on each item (i.e. $ = hundreds of dollars, $$ = thousands of dollars, $$$ = tens of thousands of dollars, etc.).

Now, knowing what your disposable income is now and in the future (estimate), lay out each item in the list over the next 1, 3, 6 and 10 years.  You now have a long range plan to improve your home.  Of course you can always revisit your plan as circumstances change (life happens).  AD Home Improvement LLC can help you with your plan to identify scope and costs associated with different remodeling projects.

Find a contractor

The next step is to find the company that is going to execute your project.  Talk with friends, family and neighbors to see who they have used in the past and their experience with that contractor.  Check the advertisements in local newspapers and flyers.  Search the internet.  Look for lawn signs where work has been done when you’re out and about.  Meet with three or four to get to know them and get estimates for your project.  Find out if their availability fits with your planned time window.  Try and find out as much as you can about each of them before you make your selection.  Once you select a contractor, you are choosing a partner to help you meet your remodeling goals.

The remainder of this page details how AD Home Improvement LLC proceeds once we win your business.

Material Selection

Now that you have selected AD Home Improvement LLC, you can start to pick out the material for your project, if you haven’t already.  We will provide a design checklist of items for which we will want your input.  The checklist will provide basic items and options. Spend a day or two at showrooms, home shows, hardware stores, supply houses or on the internet and pick out items and colors that you would like included in your design and forward this information to us.

Contract

Using the material selections that you have specified, AD Home Improvement LLC will develop a final contract for the entire project.  We will do this in concert with the customer so that you are aware of everything you need to consider prior to entering into the contract.  The contract will include a list of all materials specified by the customer, a statement of work (a description of everything AD Home Improvement LLC will do to execute this job), all design plans and a detailed schedule, along with the payment schedule so that you can plan your finances appropriately to meet the payment plan.  For smaller jobs the contract may be as simple as a signature on the final estimate and payment due upon final invoice.

Commencement of Construction and Project Completion

Once the project begins you are welcome to observe as much of the construction as you want.  After all, its your home.  Ask questions when you’re not sure what’s going on.  It is very important to us that you are informed throughout the course of the project.  Upon completion of the job, you will be given a “punch list” for you to fill out.  These are things that you have observed during the course of the project that need to be addressed.  The contractor will then take up each item you’ve identified.  Only when the punch list is complete to your SATIFACTION will the final invoice be issued.

Other considerations

Here are some other things to consider.

Do you want to be there whenever the contractor is in your home?  This may require AD Home Improvement LLC to work nights and weekends.  Of course we will accommodate your schedule but realize that this may add schedule and additional cost to the project.  Consider a home access arrangements that you are comfortable with.

There may be areas of your home that will be inaccessible while the project is underway.  These will be identified before construction begins, as well as when they will be inaccessible so that you may plan appropriately.

Do you have pets and are their frequent hang-outs in areas that will be affected by your project.  If so we’ll work with you so that they don’t get hurt during construction or cause a distraction to the crew.

These are just some of the things that may occur during your project.  AD Home Improvement LLC will make sure that you as the customer are aware of everything that is going on in all phases of the project, because we won’t be happy if you’re not happy.
